A family member anti-trans post
A family member accidentally (I assume) tagged me in an anti-trans video they found on Facebook. Given the videos content and lack of any follow-up from this individual - aside from their action to delete me from one of the people they tagged for the video, and no follow-up explaination or conversation in the days following - I have to assume they were forwarding the video, sharing it with others who they felt would support this anti-trans vitriol.
I do not.
So I sat on this for a bit - I tracked down the video by the screen shot (below), and found it (see link #1 in the "Sources" section). It pained me, but I watched it through completely.
And I formulated a response shared with them privately over email.
The response
You didn't think I saw this post (source #1 below), did you?

Or if you did, you hoped I would just ignore it and move on.
But neither happened. You did send this post. And I watched enough of it to see what it was about. And I am not content to ignore it.
You have commented many times that I am so laid-back and easygoing that you would hate to know who and what could get me angry at them. Congratulations, look in the mirror. You are one of a very small group of people who have pushed me to this. And you are part of an even smaller group to whom I felt obligated to explain myself.
Out of respect for my mother, you can stop reading and delete this now knowing that this will be the last time I reach out to you. I offer the courtesy; the rest of this is a rage- and anger-filled response from me - knowing full well that my children are part of the minority community you feel people must use their 'white privilege' to speak out against.
Keeping a promise I made to my mother, I had been keeping an open line of communication with you. Out of respect for her views on being a good mother, I hid from her the comments you have made about my family over the years. Now that she is with God, she sees it all and understands I was telling her half-truths and hiding more. I have no clue what she thinks of you now, but I am free of my promise to her. By the culmination of your words and deeds, in my eyes you have lost the honorific of "mother".
The video link you sent wasn't hard to find (source #1 below). He is arguing for a total ban on transitioning - even as adults - worldwide due to the inherently violent outcome he claims is inevitable. He's quick to ignore his transition, claiming he is an exception, and he is capable of making this claim for all trans families worldwide. How convenient for both of you. He claims that by the trans community simply asking society to accept them (a person who has transitioned) "you're creating a cornered cat." He tries to say that he and others who are anti-trans (apparently yourself included) are doing this for the "greater safety of society" and thus society is the "cornered cat."
This metaphor is grossly misplaced - the VAST MAJORITY of those in the trans community are the ones that are the "cornered cats." They only ask to be accepted - nothing more, nothing less. If your hearts aren't big enough, if your religion isn't secure enough, or if your friends aren't open enough to accept and love all of God's children, then you are the ones with the problem, not the trans community and their families who love, care for, and protect them. This hurts even more because your grandchildren are part of the LGBTQ+ community - apparently one you are not-so-secretly loath to accept in the slightest.
So how about his "greater safety" to society argument? The video opens with talk of all the "trans violence" - mass shootings done by people who transitioned and then used a gun to commit some act of violence. He doesn't give information backing HIS numbers, so I can't refute his numbers directly. What I can do is point you to the information on the Wikipedia page "Misinformation about violence by transgender people" (source #2 below) which is a summary of mass shootings in the US from 2013 through September 2025 (source #3 below). The graph at the top of the Wikipedia page is an excellent example of how far-from-true his statement is. Do you see that blue circle? It is actually a pie chart. Of the nearly 5800 mass shootings in that timeframe, only 5 (yes FIVE!) were by a confirmed transgender or non-binary perpetrator. Look at that pie chart again, but this time closely - there is a thin red line denoting the confirmed shooters at 0.09%, the rest of the blue circle is all the other shooters at 99.9%. Given he mentioned a dozen "trans shooters" by name, even if his number was accurate that still leaves 99.8% of the mass shootings are by people who are NOT trans. That is the real violence in our society! Where are your venomous words and your "Oh my, clutch my pearls, pray the Rosary, save me Lord!" reaction to the much larger gun violence problem?!?
By blindly repeating his words, spewing his filth into your corner of the internet, you're only piling onto the real "cornered cats" here - those in the LGBTQ+ community. I pray that you will try being the better Christian that you always claim to be. The next time you pray the Rosary, try asking God to help YOU be better and love all people as His Son did. And the next time, don't repost because "it aligns with how I feel." Grow beyond what is the thin veneer of the Christlike person you say you are every Sunday in church.

Conclusion
No, it's not hard to determine who the other person was based on what I wrote. I thought of redacting or changing the text to make it more generic - but that wouldn't be true to myself and my family. They already know the type of person they are - words aren't necessary, their actions (and in-actions) over the years have spoken volumes. And I offer my apologies to my family for any pain my "keeping communications open" might have caused.
